Cedar Lake Buckthorn Annual Report 2017
Cedar Lake Buckthorn Project Annual Report 2017 The ‘Buckthorn Season’ has pretty much come to an end though there are a few individual landowners who will continue to work at reducing the amount of buckthorn throughout the winter---especially on milder days. For landowners with large plots of dense buckthorn there are not enough days, time or energy to get it all. The project continues to be a resource for a number on landowners throughout Cedar Lake, Barron County and beyond. This is perhaps the only such local volunteer effort in the state. We have full support of local and state DNR. Grant: Will be starting 2nd year of our 2nd grant with approximately $ 5,000 remaining of the $11,500 grant. Should be receiving in excess of $5,000 from a claim filed recently. Balance of the grant will be directed at training and outreach in cooperation with the 5 county Cooperative...
Year in Review Newsletter 2017
This is a Year in Review newsletter intended to reflect the condition of the township and outline plans for future town board actions. Town Board 2017 objectives The current town board’s term began following the April 4, 2017 spring election. Three initial objectives were identified: (1) control township spending; (2) improve communication between the town board and constituents; and (3) ensure public safety, road maintenance, and quality of life remain top priorities. Controlled township spending The Town of Cedar Lake was in a very poor financial position at the start of this board’s term in office. The reserve fund was depleted and operating funds were insufficient to the point that the board needed to secure a 90-day short-term loan to meet payroll and other expenses until receipt of mid-year tax revenue in late August. A thorough review of all budget line items was completed in May and spending control measures...

Facts related to the non-binding referendum
The following non-binding referendum question will appear on the February 20, 2018 ballot: Should the Town of Cedar Lake eliminate optional law enforcement coverage? YES or NO? A “YES” vote means you favor ELIMITATING optional law enforcement coverage. A “NO” vote means you favor RETAINING optional law enforcement coverage with a potential tax increase. Facts related to the non-binding referendum For the past 15+ years the Town of Cedar Lake has paid for optional police coverage above what is already provided through the Barron County Sheriff’s Department and your property taxes. Since 2011, the optional Four Corners Police Department (FCPD) police coverage has come at the expense of much needed maintenance of township roads. Town of Cedar Lake operating costs have increased during the past two years to the point where the township must either eliminate optional spending or increase taxes.
