Barron County Initiates Development of Bike and Pedestrian Plan to Enhance Infrastructure and Connectivity

[Barron County, Wisconsin, September 14, 2023] – Barron County, Wisconsin, is pleased to announce the start of a process that aims to improve its bicycle and pedestrian infrastructure. This initiative will identify opportunities to enhance and expand biking and walking networks throughout the county, fostering a safer, more accessible, and interconnected community.
As road improvement projects unfold in the coming years, this plan will serve as a crucial guide, offering numerous benefits for both residents and visitors. Some of the key advantages include:
  • Potential Grant Funding: With an adopted plan, Barron County will be eligible to seek grant funding to support road improvements that incorporate bicycle and pedestrian infrastructure. This funding will enable the county to implement a network that promotes safety and accessibility for all.
  • Enhanced Transportation Options: The plan will contribute to creating a more accessible network, providing residents and visitors with a wider range of transportation choices throughout the county. This expansion of mobility options will improve overall quality of life for the community.
  • Tourism and Economic Development: Barron County’s connectivity to regional, state, and national trail systems will increase, opening up new opportunities for tourism and economic development. As the county becomes a more integral part of these networks, it will attract more visitors and stimulate local economic growth.
Public participation is central to the success of this plan. Barron County invites all residents, visitors, businesses, and stakeholders to engage actively in the process. Throughout the project, various opportunities for public input will be provided. Specifically, the project website https://barron-county-bike-and-pedestrian-plan-wcwrpc.hub.arcgis.com/ will host a survey and mapping exercises where individuals can enter their biking routes and suggest areas in need of improvement, making biking safer and more enjoyable for everyone.
In addition to the online platform, Barron County is hosting a Public Open House to gather valuable input. The Open House will take place at the Barron County Highway Department (250 N 7th St in Barron)  on Tuesday, October 24th, from 5 to 7 PM. This event will be an excellent opportunity for community members to express their ideas and concerns, ensuring that the Bike and Pedestrian Plan is a reflection of the community’s needs and aspirations.
Barron County is committed to creating a more sustainable, accessible, and interconnected community through the development of this Bike and Pedestrian Plan. By actively engaging the public and collaborating with stakeholders, the county aims to build a thriving environment for residents and visitors alike.
