MONTHLY TOWN BOARD MEETING MINUTES
APRIL 15, 2025
Chairman Tony Wolff called the monthly meeting of the Town Board of Cedar Lake to order at 6:57 p.m., immediately following the Annual Meeting. The meeting was held at the Cedar Lake Town Hall in Mikana. Present: Chairman Tony Wolff; Supervisors Kory Weiss and Jim Ludwig; Treasurer Gladys Roux and Clerk Suzie Boumeester were also in attendance. There were 36 members of the public present.
Public Input:
Lois G. recognized Clerk Maryhelen Drew for her many years of service to the town. Chairman Wolff presented a commemorative road sign: “Maryhelen Drew Ave. / 27th Ave.” A formal dedication will be scheduled for later this summer. Jeff K. provided an update on the ATV trail project near Sucker Creek Road and the new signage, fundraising was successful.
Approval of Minutes:
The minutes of the previous monthly meeting were read. Motion by Chairman Wolff to approve the minutes as presented; seconded by Supervisor Weiss. Roll call vote: Wolff – Yes, Weiss – Yes, Ludwig – Yes. Motion carried.
Financial Report:
Treasurer Roux presented the financial report. All accounts were reported as balanced. Clerk Boumeester confirmed reconciliation.
Road Report:
Supervisor Weiss reported that spring road bans will be lifted in phases beginning Friday. A map outlining the phases will be posted on the town website. Scott confirmed the schedule.
Birchwood Four Corners Emergency Services District:
Don B. reported there were two fire calls and seventeen ambulance runs during the previous month. The Jon Sleik Memorial Golf Outing is scheduled for May 18. Chief Kenny George is retiring but will remain on the board. No district meeting will be held this month.
Old Business:
Accounting Services Contract:
The board discussed transitioning from CliftonLarsonAllen due to increased fees. Clerk Drew had previously been asked to explore alternatives. Two Rivers Accounting, employing a former CLA staff member familiar with the town’s account and a local resident, provided a quote of $6,500, compared to CLA’s $8,925. Motion by Supervisor Weiss to approve the contract with Two Rivers Accounting; seconded by Supervisor Ludwig. Roll call vote: Wolff – Yes, Weiss – Yes, Ludwig – Yes. Motion carried.
Phone System Purchase: Chairman Wolff reported on a new phone system with an estimated cost of $600. No formal board action was taken.
New Business:
- Recognition of Outgoing Officers:
Chairman Wolff recognized members of the outgoing town board and presented plaques in appreciation of their service. He also acknowledged Jodi Barret for her candidacy.
- Deputy Clerk Stipend Discussion:
Clerk Boumeester administered the oath of office to Maryhelen Drew, appointing her as Deputy Clerk. Chairman Wolff proposed maintaining the position for continuity and suggested a monthly stipend of $200 instead of hourly pay. Motion by Chairman Wolff to approve a $200 monthly stipend; seconded by Supervisor Weiss. Roll call vote: Wolff – Yes, Weiss – Yes, Ludwig – Yes. Motion carried.
- Set Date for Annual Road Review:
The annual town road inspection will take place on Tuesday, April 22, at 8:00 a.m.
- Set Date for White Goods Collection:
Supervisor Weiss made a motion to set the date for white goods drop-off for Saturday, June 28, from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Scott and Ken will monitor the dumpsters. Motion seconded by Chairman Wolff. Roll call vote: Wolff – Yes, Weiss – Yes, Ludwig – Yes. Motion carried.
Correspondence:
Chairman Wolff inquired about upcoming conferences for Clerk Boumeester; she will be registered accordingly. She has completed Board of Review training and is now certified. Supervisor Weiss noted that the truck vendor used for the town’s new truck was recently acquired by another company. Clerk Boumeester presented received correspondence.

Motion by Chairman Wolff to adjourn the meeting; seconded by Supervisor Weiss. Roll call vote: Wolff – Yes, Weiss – Yes, Ludwig – Yes. Motion carried. The meeting was adjourned at 7:55 p.m.
